Weekend Bets 22nd August
Arsenal v Portsmouth
Arsenal have started extremely well, and have played great football in their two games so far. Portsmouth on the other hand have sold their best players, have a drawn out saga off the field affecting the players, and have yet to score a goal. Arsenal struggled with some similar games to this last season and they only beat Pompey 1-0. But the gulf in class has grown over the summer and the advice is to get on Arsenal on the handicap.
Arsenal to win -1 handicap = 4-6 @ Corals
Denilson’s even getting in on the act – get Arsenal on handicap
Man City v Wolves
It seemed everyone was expecting City to fall flat on their face last week at Blackburn, but they showed a steely resolve which wasn’t seen much on the road last season. While a 1-0 away win in the Nou Camp in midweek (unreported in the majority of the English press) in front of 94,000, was another huge positive for the club. Wolves had a good away win midweek but they will need their best players when travelling to tougher away games like these, and with Kightly, Ebanks-Blake and Foley all missing, it looks too much for them. City won 9 out of their 13 home wins by 2 or more goals last season, which included all 3 promoted sides. I suspect the feel good factor eminating from fans and players a like might sweep City to a comfortable victory.

Celtic v St Johnstone
Celtic were outclassed in midweek but the shoe will on the other foot on Saturday. The Bhoys were far too good for Aberdeen last week, and they’ll be looking to give their fans a lift after Wednesday nights disappointment. They will line up more offensively with Scott MacDonald coming into the attack (5-6 anytime scorer @ Boylesports). The Saints put in a decent performance to draw 2-2 on the opening day against Motherwell, but defensively they looked suspect and Celtic should exploit that.
